Colby was cold. Winter disagreed with him. He sat on the couch in front of the fire wrapped in two heavy-weight duvets and three woollen blankets and he was still cold. He was even wearing the hideous, plaid, flannel pyjamas his mother had given him last year for Christmas and annoyingly itchy thermal underwear. Lapland in winter at night in a log cabin in the middle of the woods was not Colby’s idea of a ‘romantic getaway.’ Still, he was happy enough to spend a weekend alone with David with Don’s blessing that they would not be disturbed.
David glanced up from where he sat on the floor; book in hand, with his back to the fire. His dark eyes filled with concern at the shivering Colby.
“Are you okay?”
Colby nodded. “Just cold.”
David raised an eyebrow in his famous ‘oh, really?’ fashion.
“It’s true. I’m just cold.”
David shrugged, gestured to his partner, put his book aside and patted the spot next to him. Colby took up the offer and moved, blankets and all, to sit next to David, who put his arm around the younger man. Colby responded by nestling into David’s side and laying his head on his broad shoulder.
Colby nodded and kissed David’s cheek. “Thank you.”
